With the proposed alignment, SUKE is planned to provide a high speed and high capacity link between the suburbs of Ampang, Ulu Kelang and Pandan Indah with direct access to KL Central Business District (CBD) via the connecting Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) and Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE).
SUKE aims to provide an alternative for motorists who are using the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2). It is calculated that SUKE will cut short one’s journey by 50 minutes. The journey from one end to another on MRR2 normally takes 75 minutes* but with SUKE, it will take approximately 25 minutes.
This estimated 50 minutes that you save every day for a trip means around an estimated maximum of 33 hours and 20 minutes saved every month, if we assume 20 working days a month. This is 400 hours a year or 16.67 days. It might not look significant at first, but these minutes do add up!
What many of us may not realize is that time is a commodity with a price attached to it and the assumed value of each passenger would be RM15 per hour.
This is according to an independent study which takes into account opportunity costs, surveys by Labour Departments on value of labour power per hour, etc. And that’s just a conservative average.
If we go back to the time saved by using SUKE, theoretically, we will be saving around RM6,000 by using SUKE directly. The expressway will also have added benefits to other routes.
For Cheras/Sungai Besi residents who opt to travel to Pandan Indah/Ampang/Ulu Kelang, SUKE will serve as an alternative route and disperse traffic from the existing congested Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).
It will also benefit those from Ulu Kelang to Kajang and vice versa. Before SUKE, a motorist from Kajang would have a limited choice for Ulu Kelang-bound destinations, not to mention the number of vehicles that one has to deal with on these routes especially during peak hours.
Apart from that, SUKE will also connect the motorists to other expressways and major roads in the Klang Valley such as:
- Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway(AKLEH)
- Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE)
- Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS)
- Middle Ring Road 2
- KL-Seremban Highway
- Cheras-Kajang Highway (Grand Saga)
- Jalan Ampang
- Jalan Loke Yew
With links to these highways, SUKE is undeniably an expressway that provides time-saving solutions for many road users in the Klang Valley. The ‘relief’ provided by SUKE will also free up traffic on these routes, creating a positive domino effect in alleviating traffic woes.
A shorter commute is the most obvious benefit, but motorists may also appreciate more predictable travel times and a higher likelihood of avoiding stop-and-start traffic.
